Art - Image - Perception
International and transdisciplinary doctoral program in art history at the University of Regensburg, the University of Augsburg, the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt and the University of Bern.
The Department of Modern and Contemporary Art History (MG) and the Department of Early Modern Art History (KN) of the University of Bern, together with the Institute of Art History of the University of Regensburg and the Chairs of Art History and the Chair of Classical Archaeology of the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt offer the transdisciplinary doctoral program "Aisthesis" starting in the winter semester 2009/2010.
Aisthesis, the transdisciplinary doctoral program in art history as well as classical archaeology at the University of Regensburg and the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt, offers participants a structured teaching program that fundamentally improves the quality of doctoral studies in art history while shortening the duration of the doctoral phase. The program is characterized by interdisciplinary collaboration with associated neighboring subjects (e.g. media studies, philosophy, psychology, neuropsychology, media informatics, history of science, history, and theology) and by international networking. It creates a framework for conducting advanced research on art and image culture from the perspective of image science and cultural anthropology. The research includes historical and current discourses on the image and its functions, on art, its institutions and its autonomy, as well as on perceptual processes from a philosophical, scientific and media-historical perspective. These interests are not only deepened in individual projects, but also in symposia, workshops and joint publications, which are organized in international and interdisciplinary cooperation.
